Minecraft Survival Beginner's Guide - First Days to Diamond
Your First 10 Minutes in Minecraft
When you spawn, immediately punch 3-4 wood logs from nearby trees. Open inventory (E) and craft wood planks from logs. Craft a crafting table (4 planks in a 2x2) and place it. Craft sticks (2 planks vertical) and make a wooden pickaxe (3 planks top row, 2 sticks middle). Use the pickaxe to mine 20 cobblestone. Craft a stone pickaxe, stone axe, stone sword, and furnace (8 cobblestone in a ring). Find sheep - kill 3 for wool to make a bed (3 wool horizontal + 3 planks horizontal). Build a simple dirt shelter or dig into a hillside. Place your bed inside (sets spawn point). Craft torches (stick + coal/charcoal) for light. Your first day goal: shelter, bed, stone tools, food, and light source.
Essential First Day Priorities
Food is critical - your hunger bar depletes from sprinting, jumping, fighting, and healing. Early food sources: kill pigs/cows/chickens for raw meat (cook in furnace with any fuel), collect mushrooms for mushroom stew (red + brown mushroom + bowl), or find a village with ready-made wheat farms. Craft a wooden shield (6 planks + 1 iron ingot) for defense against skeletons. Mark your base location - press F3 (Java) or check coordinates in settings (Bedrock) - note X, Y, Z. Build near water for easy fishing. Avoid caves without armor and weapons. Don't dig straight down - you'll fall into lava or caves. Don't attack iron golems or wolves unless prepared.
Mining Guide - From Iron to Diamond
Mine at Y-level 16 for iron and coal (most abundant). For diamonds: strip mine at Y=-54 (Java 1.18+) or Y=11 (older versions) using 1x2 tunnels every 3 blocks for maximum coverage. Always bring: iron pickaxe (required for diamonds), plenty of torches, food stack, water bucket (extinguish lava), shield and sword, at least 5 stone/iron pickaxes. Diamond mining strategy: branch mine at Y=-54 with 2-block-high tunnels spaced 3 blocks apart. Each diamond vein yields 1-8 diamonds. First diamonds: craft a diamond pickaxe (that's the priority), then enchantment table (2 diamonds + 4 obsidian + 1 book). Fortune III on your pickaxe multiplies diamond drops by up to 2.2x on average.
Combat and Survival Tips
Critical hits: Jump and attack while falling for 50% extra damage. Shield: Right-click blocks nearly all damage from the front. Creeper defense: Sprint-attack to push them away before they explode. Skeleton avoidance: Zigzag approach or use shield. Spider fighting: Attack their body not legs. Enderman: Don't look at their face, stand under a 2-block-high ceiling where they can't reach. Witches: Keep distance, they throw poison. Zombie pigmen: Don't attack unless provoked - they swarm. Always carry a water bucket - it extinguishes you from lava, breaks your fall, and pushes mobs away. Drink milk to cure poison and other status effects.
Getting Enchanted Gear
Enchanting requires an enchantment table (2 diamonds + 4 obsidian + 1 book), 15 bookshelves placed 1 block away surrounding it, and lapis lazuli (mine at Y=0 to 30). Place bookshelves in a 5x5 ring with 1-block gap. Level 30 enchantments need 15 bookshelves. Best enchantments: Sword - Sharpness V, Looting III, Fire Aspect II, Unbreaking III, Mending. Pickaxe - Fortune III (or Silk Touch), Efficiency V, Unbreaking III, Mending. Armor - Protection IV, Unbreaking III, Mending. Bow - Power V, Flame, Infinity (or Mending for tipped arrow builds), Unbreaking III. Combine enchanted books at an anvil - plan your enchantment order to minimize XP cost. Villager trading halls (librarians) are the most reliable way to get specific enchanted books.
Nether and End Progression
Nether portal: 14 obsidian in a 4x5 frame (ignite with flint and steel). Enter with gold boots (piglin neutral), fire resistance potion, shield, and food. Find a Nether fortress (bridges + dark bricks + blaze spawners) for blaze rods. Craft blaze powder from blaze rods. Combine with ender pearls (from Endermen) to make Eyes of Ender. Throw Eyes of Ender to locate the nearest Stronghold. Enter the End portal at the Stronghold. Ender Dragon fight: destroy end crystals on obsidian pillars first (shoot with bow or pillar up), then attack dragon when it perches. Bring slow falling potions, ender pearls, at least 3 stacks of arrows/blocks/food. After victory, collect dragon egg and explore End cities via the new portal.
Multiplayer Server Survival Differences
On multiplayer servers, claim your land immediately - most servers use GriefPrevention (golden shovel claim) or Towny. Protect chests with locks (/lock). Never trust strangers with coordinates or base location. Build at least 5000 blocks from spawn to avoid griefers. Use chunk loaders or regularly visit important farms to keep them loaded. Learn server-specific commands (/home, /tpa, /warp, /shop). Economy servers: sell excess resources at /shop, buy what you need. PvP servers: always carry ender pearls and golden apples. CyberNex servers include automatic grief protection, hourly backups, and one-click modpack deployment. Our 4GB plan handles 20-30 players with plugins, 8GB handles 50+ with modpacks.
