RAM by Player Count (Vanilla/Paper)
1-5 players: 1GB. 5-15 players: 2GB. 15-25 players: 3-4GB. 25-40 players: 5-6GB. 40-60 players: 7-8GB. 60-100+ players: 10-16GB. These are for optimized Paper servers. Spigot uses slightly more, Fabric/Forge significantly more.
RAM by Server Type
Vanilla: 1GB base + 100MB per player. Paper/Spigot (optimized): 1GB base + 75MB per player. Spigot (heavy plugins, 30+): 2GB base + 100MB per player. Forge/Fabric (50 mods): 3GB base + 200MB per player. Modpack (150+ mods): 4-6GB base + 200MB per player. BungeeCord/Velocity proxy: 512MB-1GB (proxy doesn't need much).
The Version Factor
Minecraft 1.16-1.18: Baseline RAM usage. 1.19-1.20: 15-20% more RAM due to world height increase and new biome generation. 1.21+: 25-30% more RAM than 1.16 due to trial chambers, new mobs, and expanded world data. Always check your server's RAM usage in the control panel after launch and upgrade if consistently above 80%.
CPU Matters Too
